Ages 9-12

 4:15pm-6pm

A wide variety of mediums will be explored. Clay, paint, drawing materials, plaster, collage, wire, mixed media, and more. Clay is excellent for fine motor development in younger students. I have my own kiln in the studio so we create a lot of vessels and sculptures. Immersion into many art forms allows for a well rounded young artist. Famous artists will also be linked to lessons, so students will be inspired and be able to recognize famous works. We will also create art outdoors, such as landscape sketches and other projects when the weather and the lesson are appropriate.

Teen classes will also use a variety of media, however, they will concentrate more on long term projects where students can engage in self-exploration. College portfolios are also created in this class while students are in their high school grades 9-12. Preparation for specific portfolio requirements are met for each college the student is applying to. All of my students have a 100% acceptance rate.

I really enjoyed my time at Mrs. Denise’s Art studio in her basement! She taught me so much stuff that I use whenever I use pencils, clay, markers, etc. I learned how to paint in so many different styles and textures. Everyday I went to her class, I had the best time with all of my friends and left with a handful of candy! :)

I have attended Ms.Denise’s classes since first grade. Throughout the years she was always there to help expand my horizons and teach me how to funnel my creative energy to create beautiful pieces of artwork. Denise and another student Sarah helped me choose which pieces I should use in my portfolio. I was accepted to each art school I applied to, thanks to the portfolio prep and artwork I created in class with Ms.Denise. Not only has she been a mentor to me in classes, but she has helped me throughout college if i ever needed advice and she has always been there for all her students as someone to talk to.

I’ve been a student of Denise’s for well over ten years, probably having taken my first class in the first or second grade. For me her basement studio became more than a classroom. When I was little I was so excited to go to class after school! My love for art and her program only grew over time as I progressed and made more friends with each year’s new additions. Each week brought something new, everything was (and still is) a teaching moment. But there is so much more to Scribble and Sculpt than just that. As the years went on, Denise was there for me as more than a teacher. When family life and school were too much to handle, her studio was a safe place for me to blow off steam on the canvas, vent with my art friends, or just plug into some music and escape into my work. When I was stressing over my college portfolio, she opened her home to me, letting me stay upwards of five hours a day and on WEEKENDS… she doesn’t even have classes then! She has the biggest heart and a true gift for teaching, and I have been privileged beyond comprehension to be her student. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me get where I am today. Where is this, you ask? Sitting on a stack of college acceptance letters! I have received Deans’s Scholarships from a list of amazing schools, ranging from arts-specific colleges to major universities such as Drexel, Hofstra, Stevens, NJIT, Rutgers, NYU’s Tisch, and more. I have also received multiple scholarships, including the Dean’s and Presidential scholarships, from Ringling College of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, and Parsons. Ringling is the #1 animation school in the country, and Pratt and Parsons are world-renowned for their student’s work. My time as Denise’s student in her classroom may soon be coming to a close, but I will most certainly be back for visits and to help in the classroom. I grew up in her studio, and she’s so much more than “my art teacher.” She is a mentor, a counselor, an idol, an inspiration, and a friend.

The art class im in right now is so amazing and helps me with all my stress and anxiety. Art was always a way to help me cope and survive all my challenges. I have learned how to blend better, use better techniques while painting, put more detail into my art work and much more. Aside from everything ive learned, what makes this art class even better is being surrounded with funny, supportive, loving people. I have such an amazing art teacher, couldn’t ask for a better one. Pretty sure without her my art work wouldn’t be as good as it is now. Whats amazing is that every week (if were not doing a big project) we have a new project to do. This is always fun, it tests everyones skills with different styles of art.

“It is so much fun to take art class with Ms Denise! I have been taking her class for 3 years. I most enjoy doing all the different kinds of art especially working with clay, plaster, painting and drawing. Every week I like to see what new project we will be working on. Ms Denise is an amazing art teacher and I love going to art each week!
